Mountshannon is situated in the North East of County Clare on the shores of Lough Derg.
The Village is located on the R352 and is approximately 50km (30 miles) from the City of Limerick and 50km (30 miles) from Shannon Town/Airport and about 100km (60 miles) from Galway City.
It is between the villages of Scarriff (5 miles) and Whitegate (4 miles).
Directions to Mountshannon
From Dublin direction (N7):
Take the N7 from Dublin heading for Limerick. 13 kilometres past Nenagh is Birdhill. As you enter the 60k zone approaching Birdhill watch for signs to Killaloe / Ballina/ Scarriff. Take this turn on your right. (See ‘From Birdhill’)
From Cork/Limerick direction (N20/N7):
Take the N20 out of Cork to Limerick. On approach to Limerick you will come onto a round-a-bout; take the last exit (Dublin N7). NB: If you should find yourself in or visit Limerick follow N7 signs to continue journey.
Follow N7/Dublin signs out of Limerick. Continue on the N7 to Birdhill. As you pass out of Birdhill, going from the 50k zone into the 60k zone, heading down hill, watch for signs to Killaloe / Ballina/ Scarriff to your left. (See 'From Birdhill')
From Birdhill:
Straight road into Ballina, take a left at the intersection in the middle of Ballina and over the bridge into Killaloe. Go right at the Killaloe side signs for Scarriff.
From Killaloe:
Follow road via Ogonnelloe to Tuamgraney. Take right hand turn at massive mass rock/shrine to Scarriff. Keep right at the bottom of the hill going around Scarriff. (Unless you wish to visit Scarriff then go up hill). Otherwise follow signs for Mountshannon which is the next town and now only 5 miles away.
From Shannon Airport:
Follow the N19 (signposted Galway, Limerick, Ennis). At round-a-bout take the 2nd exit onto the N19. At next round-a-bout take the 2nd exit onto the N19 (signposted All Routes. At Shannon Town round-a-bout take the 2nd exit onto the N19 (signposted Galway, Limerick). At roundabout take the 3rd exit, then merge onto the N18 (signposted Limerick), branch left (signposted Town Centre, Sixmilebridge), then turn left onto the R471 (signposted Sixmilebridge). Continue forward onto the R471 Entering Sixmilebridge R471. At crossroads turn left onto the R462 (signposted Tulla, Ennis) heading for Kilmurry. Continue on through Kilkishen taking the turn right onto the R352 (signposted Portumna). Continue on to Bodyke, then to Tuamgraney still on the R352. Entering Scarriff bear right onto the R352 for Mountshannon. The whole journey should be 55.5k approx.
