New playground project!

The proposal to build a new playground in the Aistear park arose out of the Community Development Diploma course that was run in Mountshannon over the past year. This course has finished in recent months. The research of Graduate Jane Murry on the need for a new playground had to be quickly escalated beyond research into a full scale development project on the discovery that there was a grant available and that the deadline was about to close. Jane quickly turned her research into an application and in conjunction with the Mountshannon Community Council successfully secured the grant.
The Playground project has now moved into a new stage with deliberations on its final location and the submission of a planning application to the County Council in recent weeks. As the grant comes in under price required for the playground needed fund raising is in hand. Donations can be given to any member of the community council.

First event under new managment

As their first organised event the newly formed Mountshannon Community council hosted a bonafide Social event.
As many clubs, associations and groups that could be thought off where invited to an open night in the local community hall with refreshments and entertainment arranged for afterwards. Each group that came was issued some table space on which to present their organisation to peers and other interested parties. There was much cross pollination of local interest and we all got an insight into what our neighbours get up to at the weekend. It was quiet surprising to find out so much was going on day to day in the background of Mountshannon. As part of the regeneration of Mountshannon.com we were there to collect as much info as possible. The results can be found in our
Clubs & Associations section.
