The Inis Cealtra Gun Club was formed in the year 2000 by a group of shooting enthusiasts from the Scarriff/Mountshannon, Co. Clare area.
There are presently over 50 members, all of whom are affiliated to and insured by the National Association of Regional Games Councils. (NARGC site) Inis Cealtra is one of the most successful, active and well-managed clubs in Co. Clare. The main goal of Inis Cealtra Gun Club is to further the interests of its members by providing a safe, well-managed attitude to the sport. Each year the club run two Clay Pigeon Shoots, one in April and one in July. These shoots are supported by gun clubs from all over the country and have grown in popularity over the past few years. The shoots are usually held on Sundays with both novice and professional shooters taking part, some of whom have shot for Munster and also represented Ireland on the Irish Clay Pigeon Team in International Competition. Clay pigeon shooting is a thrilling experience, demanding calm concentration, a keen eye and quick reaction making it a great sport for all, young, old, men and women alike.
The shoots are open to any member of the public owning a legally held shot gun.
The club is indebted to Scarriff RFC and the Scarriff Show Society for the continued use of their facilities and to all their sponsors of competitions over the past few years.
The funds raised from the shoots go towards the successful release of duck and pheasants in the club grounds.
During each year the Gun Club run a variety of competitions, details of which can be had from the current chairperson, secretary or treasurer
