The ‘Mountshannon Fair Day and Weekend’
The Mountshannon Fair Day, or ‘Weekend’ as it has now become, is an annual, community-
based event staged and hosted by either a voluntary group of individuals under the auspices
of the Mountshannon Community Council or by a sub-committee of the Community Council.
The events on the day are mostly hosted in the pride of the village,
‘The Aistear Iniscealtra Park' and in private fields nearby or at the harbour area.
The fair itself has had a chequered past since its inception and patent in 1742,
the official foundation date of the town, to it's decline over a hundred years
ago to its resurection once more in the early 1990's.
The organising committees have had great success running this event in recent
years expanding on the event each year.
