A Few Lines About The Club

Stream Development

The Club's main goals are to develop the rivers and streams in the mountshannon area and bring them back to the way they were in the past years. This involves drawing up a plan to suit each rivers unique requirements. This can vary from gravel beds to pool development and clearing dense scrub to allow light and insects etc into the rivers. This in turn results in a healthy environment for the trout to spawn, fry to hatch and develop thus insuring the cycle continues. The club monitors the progress of each stream to ensure that the fish get a good survival rate. In the past six years, the club has cleaned and developed almost 20 km of spawning rivers and streams in Mountshannon and surrounding parishes with unbelievable results. The aim of the club is to spend at least 10,000 euro a year for the coming years on stream development.

Youth Development

The club encourages Junior anglers and holds competitions during May. Fly-tying and tackle selection demos will be held prior to May.

Conservation

All competitions except (1) are ran on the heaviest fish basis, thus ensuring that a significant number of fish that are caught are returned to fight another day.

Rules

Trout: Season is from 17 March to 30 September. All trout must be over 14 Inches. Catch and release is encouraged. Pike: Must be under 50cm and a limit of 1 fish per person per day.

All coarse fish: No more than 4 fish per person per day. Anglers are requested to keep boats 100 meters apart, drive slowly in bays and near other boats, to wear life jackets and carry a mobile phone at all times. The club would like to ensure that the rivers and lakes are kept clean and maintained and that all anglers respect the environment and the area where they fish.
